Austin-based designer Jen Ford started sewing handbags for herself and friends in 2003 as a creative outlet. After receiving overwhelmingly positive responses to her bags from friends and strangers alike she decided to make handbag design more than just a hobby. She loved the idea of creating a bag that was not only hip and trendy, but had all of the practicality she wanted. Too often these two qualities seemed to be mutually exclusive in the products available in the market. And this is what sparked Jen's mission...for function to meet style.
A former business
analyst for a Fortune 50 company, Jen describes her inspiration,
“I’ve seen so many women walking into business meetings with the
same basic, black computer bag. They are tired of uninspired bags
and instead want something polished and useful. I felt the same way.
Why couldn’t my computer bag reflect my personality AND hold my cell
phone and lipstick? I thought I could bring personality and
practicality back into the mix. So I started making my own bags at
home. Soon I realized that mothers had the same needs. Why can’t a
mom have a hip diaper bag that is still functional?” Two years after
designing bags for her own use, Ford left her corporate job to
pursue design full time.
Jenny Norene Design launched in the
fall of 2006. The current line includes handbags, travel & work
totes, and baby items, including diaper bags and matching
accessories.
Who's Norene? Norene is Jen's middle
name. She was named after her great-grandmother. It is a name that
she has always loved and is very proud to use in her work.
